TLDR
Twin Sun was hired to build an automated investing platform, and the project expanded significantly when they landed a white-label contract with one of the largest credit unions in the U.S. We provided front-end development for a dual-journey investment experience supporting both self-guided securities selection and robo-advisory portfolio management, integrated with a third-party brokerage API for fractional share trading. The two-year engagement required coordinating across multiple organizations, meeting enterprise requirements, and adapting our team structure as the project evolved from intensive development through stabilization. The platform now serves the credit union's members, giving them accessible tools to build investment portfolios regardless of their starting point or expertise level.
The Challenge
We were hired to rebuild an automated investing platform from the ground up. Version two would be faster, more flexible, and designed for scale. Midway through development, the project scope expanded significantly when our client landed a major contract with one of the largest credit unions in the country. The credit union wanted a white-label version of the platform for their members, which meant adapting our architecture, meeting enterprise compliance requirements, and coordinating across multiple organizations with different priorities and timelines.
Our Solution
Twin Sun handled front-end development while our client built the backend services. When the credit union opportunity emerged, we shifted focus to support that engagement, adapting the platform for white-labeling and working directly with the credit union’s design specifications and accessibility requirements. We participated in weekly cross-organization meetings, helping align technical delivery with business objectives across all parties. As the engagement evolved, we adjusted our team structure and processes to match the project’s changing needs, scaling up during intensive development phases and transitioning to a maintenance posture once the platform stabilized.
The Results
We delivered a dual-journey investment platform that serves the credit union’s members today. Users can either select individual securities through a self-guided experience or receive algorithm-driven portfolio recommendations through the robo-advisory path. The platform integrates with a third-party brokerage API for fractional share trading and handles the complete investment lifecycle from account creation through ongoing portfolio management. The engagement lasted over two years, demonstrating our ability to adapt and deliver through evolving requirements and complex stakeholder dynamics.
Coordinating Across Organizations
Multi-party engagements require a different kind of discipline than typical client work. You have different organizations with different priorities, different communication styles, and different definitions of success. Our role was to stay focused on delivery while remaining flexible about how we got there.
Weekly meetings with the credit union meant understanding their compliance requirements, their timeline pressures, and their expectations for the member experience. Working with our client meant coordinating our front-end development with their backend services and adapting when priorities shifted. The key was being the party everyone could count on, even when other parts of the project were in flux: clear about what we’d deliver and when, responsive when priorities shifted, and consistent in the quality of the work regardless of what else was happening around us.
A Partnership that Evolved
Long engagements rarely look the same at the end as they did at the beginning. Over two-plus years, we adjusted our team composition, our processes, and our engagement model to match what the project needed at each phase. Early on, that meant intensive development sprints to build core functionality. Later, it meant transitioning to a smaller team focused on stability and incremental improvements.
The ability to scale up and scale down without losing continuity is something we’ve gotten good at. When you’re the consistent presence through an evolving project, you become the institutional memory that keeps things moving forward. That continuity has value beyond the code itself.
Software Serving Real People
The platform we built helps credit union members invest in their futures. They can open accounts, link their banks, build portfolios, and manage their investments through an interface designed to make investing accessible. Fractional shares mean members can start with whatever amount works for them. Automated portfolios mean they don’t need to be experts to participate. Two years of organizational complexity and shifting requirements were worth it for software that does exactly that.
