TLDR

Twin Sun delivered a working proof of concept in eight days for a maintenance management startup, giving the client the confidence to invest in a full platform build. The completed application served four distinct user types with complex job routing, QR code-based request initiation, Stripe payment processing, and both mobile and web interfaces. Twin Sun navigated evolving requirements throughout development, pushed back on a payment flow that carried fraud risk, advised on platform architecture to minimize transaction fees, and provided technical documentation for a patent application. The client eventually hired a CTO and brought development in-house on top of the foundation Twin Sun built.

The Challenge

The client had an idea for a maintenance management platform but limited funds and no working software. They needed to validate the concept quickly before committing to a larger investment.

Our Solution

Twin Sun delivered a working proof of concept in eight days, then scaled into a full platform build covering mobile apps, a web portal, QR code-based job initiation, Stripe payment integration, and workflows for four distinct user types.

The Results

The rapid proof of concept gave the client the confidence to invest in a full build. The completed platform handled the entire maintenance lifecycle from job creation through payment and review. The client eventually hired a CTO and brought development in-house, a milestone Twin Sun views as a sign of a successful engagement.

Validate Fast

OneTap Maintenance came to Twin Sun with a straightforward need: they had a concept for a maintenance management app and a small budget to prove it could work. They wanted to see something real before committing further.

Twin Sun delivered a working application with core functionality in eight days. It was minimal, but it was real. That proof of concept gave the client confidence to move forward with a larger engagement to build out the full platform.

The Complexity of Multiple User Types

The full build was significantly more ambitious. The platform needed to serve four distinct user types within a single application: residents who report issues, project managers who coordinate jobs, property owners who approve work, and technicians who perform repairs. Each had different workflows and notification needs, and a single maintenance job had to pass through all of them reliably from request to completion to payment.

Iterative Development, Development Advice

The client’s vision for how the platform should work evolved throughout development. The job routing system, the payment flow, the approval process: these changed as the client refined their thinking based on internal discussions and market feedback.

Twin Sun adapted to these shifts while pushing back when it mattered. When the client initially wanted to charge property managers the full job cost upfront and pay technicians immediately, Twin Sun flagged the fraud risk. A technician could mark a job complete without actually doing the work and get paid before anyone noticed. The team recommended adding a project manager review step before payout, which the client adopted.

Building Beyond Mobile

Phase two expanded the platform significantly. Twin Sun built a web portal so project managers could work from a desktop and a browser-based flow that let anyone scan a QR code and submit a maintenance request without installing the app or creating an account.

The client pursued a patent for their QR code-based maintenance request system, and Twin Sun provided the detailed technical specification documentation needed for the patent application.

Twin Sun also advised the client on payment architecture. For QR code-initiated transactions, the team identified that Apple’s in-app purchase requirements did not apply since the service being purchased was external and physical. This allowed the client to use Stripe directly, saving them significant transaction fees.

Setting the Client Up for Independence

The engagement concluded with the client hiring a CTO and building an internal development team to continue work on the platform. Twin Sun views this as a natural and healthy progression for a growing startup. The platform Twin Sun built gave OneTap a production-ready foundation to build on with their own team.
