TLDR
NashBio came to Twin Sun with a WordPress site that had been built so custom it couldn't be modified without developer intervention. We rebuilt the site using standard WordPress patterns, maintaining the professional appearance while creating something their team could actually manage. Since 2019, we've provided ongoing maintenance, security updates, and downtime monitoring, keeping the site running at 99.97% uptime. The partnership has evolved from a one-time rebuild into a sustainable long-term relationship.
The Challenge
NashBio had a website built by another vendor using WordPress, but the implementation was so heavily customized that making even simple content updates required developer intervention.
Our Solution
Twin Sun rebuilt the site using standard WordPress themes and patterns, maintaining the professional appearance while creating a foundation that NashBio’s team could actually manage.
The Results
The site has operated at 99.97% uptime, and the partnership has continued for over six years with ongoing maintenance, security updates, and content evolution.
When 'Custom' Becomes a Constraint
NashBio is a clinical genomics company that spun out of Vanderbilt University Medical Center in 2018. For a company working with partners like Celgene, Pfizer, and Atara Biotherapeutics, their web presence matters.
The original website had been built with an extremely custom approach to WordPress. The theme was hard-coded in ways that made you wonder why they’d even chosen WordPress in the first place. Every change required diving into custom code. The site worked, it looked professional, but it was essentially frozen in place. NashBio needed the ability to update content, add press releases, and evolve their messaging as the company grew.
Building for Maintainability
When NashBio reached out, they had a straightforward question: could we redo this in a way that would let them actually use WordPress the way it was designed?
Rather than recreating the custom theme constraints, we recommended migrating to a standard theme with similar design elements. This approach reduced long-term maintenance costs dramatically. Updates that would have required developer time could now be handled by NashBio’s marketing team directly.
The site structure covered their key needs: service descriptions, case studies showcasing their pharmaceutical partnerships, and a press section that could be updated easily as new media coverage accumulated.
Long-Term Relationship
The initial project concluded with a successful launch, but that was just the beginning. Over the years that followed, we’ve continued to support NashBio with ongoing maintenance and updates.
We’ve added new widgets and pages. We’ve updated existing content as NashBio’s offerings evolved. We’ve handled security patches as WordPress vulnerabilities emerged and set up downtime monitoring to catch issues before they impact visitors.
More recently, the relationship has matured into a systematic maintenance process. When security vulnerabilities are identified in WordPress plugins, we apply patches and provide detailed reports to NashBio’s team, including information about CVEs and severity levels. This keeps their Security Operations Center informed while we handle the technical execution.
After more than six years together, the partnership continues. New pages get added when needed. Security updates are applied promptly. The site evolves with the business.
