TLDR

Make N Offer was built in seven weeks on a fixed budget. The project showcased how investment in reusable infrastructure pays off: our managed hosting scripts had the staging environment running in under an hour, and our existing Stripe integration required only styling to fit the new platform. Smart scope decisions kept the project on budget, most notably choosing direct buyer-seller contact over in-app messaging, which saved significant development time without compromising functionality. We seeded vehicle data into normalized tables while allowing sellers to add new makes and models, enabling robust search and filtering. The clean UI includes a US heat map showing listing concentration by state. The result is a focused marketplace that does exactly what it needs to: connect classic car buyers with sellers efficiently.

The Challenge

DJ’s Desert Classics is a classic car business in Tucson. They wanted to expand into online advertising with a marketplace where sellers could list their classic vehicles and buyers could browse and connect with them. The vision was clear: a clean, professional platform that made it easy to find the right car without the noise of general automotive marketplaces. The challenge was delivering a fully functional marketplace within a fixed budget and timeline. That meant making smart decisions about what to build and what to skip.

Our Solution

Twin Sun approached this project with a clear focus on delivering working software quickly while staying within budget. Several factors made this possible. First, our investment in reusable infrastructure paid off. Make N Offer was among our first managed hosting clients, and our setup scripts had the staging environment running in under an hour. The Stripe payment integration we had already built into our base application translated directly to the marketplace with minimal customization, requiring only styling adjustments and flow integration. Second, we made deliberate scope decisions to protect the budget. The most significant was choosing not to build an in-app messaging system. Instead, buyers register to see seller contact information, then reach out directly. Since the platform makes its revenue on the listing side when sellers pay to post their vehicles, there was no business reason to gate the buyer experience further. This single decision saved considerable development time without compromising the core value proposition. Third, we built smart data structures from the start. Classic cars are still cars, so we seeded the database with known makes and models, normalized into proper tables, while allowing sellers to add new entries as needed. This prevents the data quality problems that plague other marketplaces (no more “Ford” vs “FORD” vs “ford”) and enables the robust search and filtering system that makes the platform useful. The design work produced a clean, professional interface. A US map with heat-map visualization shows where listings are concentrated by state, letting buyers quickly identify markets with inventory that interests them. The filtering and search system allows buyers to narrow down results by make, model, year, price range, and location. Our documentation and processes are built to keep projects moving even through internal staffing changes, which this project put to the test: a new developer ramped up quickly mid-build with no loss of momentum or quality.

The Results

Make N Offer launched on March 11, 2025, seven weeks after kickoff. The project came in on budget and on time, accommodating a two-week schedule adjustment due to client travel along the way. The platform delivers exactly what was promised: sellers can list their vehicles with a paid listing fee, buyers can browse, search, and filter for free, and once registered, buyers can contact sellers directly. The structured vehicle data and robust filtering make it easy to find specific cars, and the heat map provides an immediate visual sense of market activity. The project demonstrated that fixed-budget delivery is possible when both sides commit to clear communication and smart trade-offs. We didn’t try to build everything; we built the right things well.
